Yarra Valley Farmers Market – Yering Station

Once a month, local producers will gather in the Historic barn at the Yering station for one of the longest running farmers’ market in Victoria. The market features an extensive selection of local produce sourced from the region, including seasonal fruit and organic vegetables, freshly cut flowers, breads, biscuits, jams and preserves, cheese, coffee and pasta.

At any given time of the year, Yering station is stunning place to visit through its lush surroundings and views of its gorgeous vineyards. During our visit in May, Yering station was aglow in rich autumnal colours which made our visit an absolute visual treat.

The best way to enjoy the farmers’ market is to bring your family or a group of friends and if weather permits, a few picnic rugs or fold up chairs. After browsing through the local produce, pick up some food from the vast array of stalls and relax amongst the green fields and live music – there’s also a jumping castle for the kids!

If you have time afterwards, head over to the cellar door for some wine tasting and the art gallery. Directly upstairs of the cellar door is Harry’s bar, where you can savour some delicious cheese and wine.

Ravioli from Yarra Valley Pasta, Wood fired pizza, Savoury egg tarts from Yummaz from the market in May

The Gorgonzola, Fig & Prosciutto Ravioli with truffle oil, burnt butter and sage is rich, al dente and absolutely divine. A must try but best shared between two given the intensity of the flavours.

We also devoured a thin crust wood fired pizza with cheery tomato, basil and bocconcini . Perfectly cooked and a fantastic combination of toppings, though I would have preferred the tomato sugo to be slightly richer.

Finally, you cannot go wrong with a mushroom and bacon savoury egg tart (with many different combinations to choose from) served with a dollop of tomato relish.
