Spoonbill is located on the northern end of Chapel Street and situated at the foot of The Olsen, a luxury boutique hotel.
Upon a quick survey of the restaurant, it is evident that this is a place as suitable for a casual drink by the bar or a light dinner as it is for something a little more special.
Surrounded by floor to ceiling glass, the place is basked in an abundance of natural light and our seat next to the window was perfect for an early dinner.
Menu, Modern Mediterranean Cuisine
The first thing that strikes me about the menu is the emphasis on regional Australia produce and the indication of where some of their produce is sourced from.
The bar
Venison Carpaccio
This is the first time I have tried Venison carpaccio and I found it was not particularly gamey. This was lightly seasoned and worked well with the sweet, creamy beetroot sauce.
Aylesbury Duck breast
The duck break was cooked perfectly and served with asparagus and slivers of peas. Being sliced ever so finely, the peas were able to absorb the sauces whilst retaining its crispness.
The other main, Fish of the day – Pan fried barramundi
I thoroughly enjoyed Spoonbill, particularly for its seasonal menu and fresh local produce. The service was good, dishes were reasonably priced and all the dishes we had were well executed.
