Today I wanted to share some thoughts on one my favourite restaurants in South Yarra, the ever-charming and affable Entrecôte.
If the name sounds familiar, its because the restaurant takes inspiration from the Parisienne landmark, Le Relais De Venise, in the upscale St Germain District of Paris. (Entrecôte has also recently opened up a new city location in Alfred Place, right opposite Stokehouse City)
At Entrecôte, you don’t need to set foot inside the restaurant to feel like you’ve been whisked away to Paris. Its marble tables and terrace dining areas overlooking the Royal Botanical Gardens also makes it one of the best spots in Melbourne to enjoy a classic Steak Frites (‘Entrecôte’ refers to a cut of steak from the sirloin) or a few drinks amongst an afternoon soiree.
Now, whilst Entrecôte may be known for its steak, the well-balanced breakfast menu is a class of its own, offering a selection of dishes that you would find at any French cafe – such as a simple baguette served with Bonne Maman jam. For smaller items, the croissant filled with ham, mustard, gruyere and brioche breakfast roll are standouts, however the dish that I keep coming back for is the delicious lillet and dill cured salmon with 63 degree eggs.
On a warm or sunny day, there’s also nothing more relaxing than starting your day with a coffee on the front terrace, perhaps divulging in some dog watching and soaking in the beautiful surroundings.
